The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc. (ASALH) Christmas Breakfast ar the Hyatt Sarasota. ASALH, Inc, the organization, was founded September 9, 1915. It's founder, the late Carter G. Woodson, was a Harvard-trained scholar and international educator who was the son of former slaves. In February 1926, Dr. Woodson announced the institution of Negro History Week, which coincided with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. In 1976, the observance was expanded to "National Afro-American History Month", in honor of the nation's bicentennial. New Year Eve Gala

The Society will host its Annual New Year's Eve Gala at Fred's in Lakewood Ranch. Proceeds from the event will go to a scholarship fund for African American youth interested in pursuing studies in the performing and fine arts. Tickets are $150 per person.
