Come out and celebrate the spirit of the holiday season with the Black Business Professional Network. The BBPN Holiday Cafe will showcase some of the areas most talented. Whether jazz artist, Neo - Soul or R & B performer, spoken-word artist, poet or comedian, the audience will roar with laughter, applause and head – bobbing. The talent line-up is filling with names like: Nate Jacobs, Margaret Clark, LaTerry Butler and Friends, the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and the list goes on. Make checks payable to: Black Business Professional Network Thursday, December 21, 2006 4PM-7PM Second Chance Last Opportunity Holiday Party for the Children of Newtown For the past 12 years April Glasco, Founder, Executive Director of Second Chance Last Opportunity has been making sure the children of Newtown get something extra special for the holidays. This year Glasco has teamed up with Don Owen of Owen Motors to put on a fabulous holiday party for the children. Owen joined Second Chance in their efforts because, he says, "I don't want a single child to go without a happy, exciting holiday season." The party will be held at the Owen Motors location, 2134 N. Washington Boulevard, Sarasota, 34235. Santa will make an apperance and each child will recieve a toy. Children from newborn to 11 years old are welcomed. Children old enough to shop will be invited to a day of shopping at a local department store where Second Chance volunteers will assist them with a budget, calculators and shopping lists to purchase gifts for their family members. The members of BBPN along with the broader community are asked to support this event. Contributions are needed to make this a wonderful holiday for the children. If you would like to contribute there is a need for toys, money and volunteers. (Toys should be new, wrapped and labeled for boy or girl and age appropriateness.) 100% of all donations go to the children. To offer your support and bring a child a joyous holiday, call Second Chance, 941.360.8660 for more information Saturday, December 2, 2006 11AM-2PM Gospel Brunch and Silent Auction Horizons Unlimited Christian Academy held its annual Gospel Brunch and Silent Auction on Saturday, December 2 at Michael's on East. If you were not there you missed a treat! The food was wonderful, the place was packed, the gospel entertainment guests were fabulous! The event was jumpstarted by the melodic voices of the Horizons Academy Choir featuring 3 to 4 year pre-schoolers who hit every note and moved rhythmically to the beat of the music. Gospel selections by Stephen Wicker, Lillette Jenkins-Wisner and Sherwood Davis were spellbounding. Horizons Unlimited Christian Academy Pre-School is a subsidiary of Horizons Unlimited Community Development Corporation of Bethlehem Baptist Church pastored by Rev. Patrick a. Miller. It utilizes the Wee Learn www.cdealliance.org currculum which is based upon a christian perspective and emphasizes social and academic readiness so that children are prepared for a successful educational future. The school, in its fourth year has already produced some of Sarasota's most gifted little ones. A group of enthusiastic BBPN'ers have already begun training. Sooo... dust off the ole running shoes, grab the energy bars and make the call to join us for this health conscious cause. (Walking is also allowed.) The race begins and ends on the lush grounds of the Ringling Museum and winds through historic neighborhoods and along the bay.
