Thursday, March 8 - 24, 2007 Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe a the Historic Asolo- DREAMGIRLS
Last week to catch this hot production!

Here's what the critics are saying...

Sarasota's WBTT ........ turns its hand at showcasing some of the considerable talent of local performers in its current production of "Dreamgirls". ....... Director Reggie Kelly draws on WBTT's own rich vein of talent to mount this ambitious production in the troupe's stunning new home at the Historic Asolo Theater. Two of the troupe's brightest stars are the musical's strongest performers. The always impressive Teresa Stanley is Effie Wgite ...... And the performer known as "Chadwick" explodes upon the stage as James "Thunder" Early ........ These two are standouts in a fine cast, which includes Michel Kinsey ......, Jnana Wilson ...... and troupe founder Nate Jacobs ..... the wellspring of energy and commitment in the many talented performers of WBTT is a joy to watch, and one suspects that Sarasota audiences will have a chance to boast that they saw them early in their illustrious careers.

Statewide Recruitment of Minority Guardian ad Litems

The Guardian ad Litem Program of the 12th Judicial Circuit, which provides advocates for abused, neglected and abandoned children, has a critical need for new African American volunteers.

The 12th Judicial Circuit includes Sarasota, Manatee, and Desoto counties. On average, 1200 to 1250 children are in the dependency court system each month. Minority children make up approximately 30% of this population. Having an African American Guardian Ad Litem would be beneficial to the children, as they would have someone to relate to, in essence minimizing trauma to the child and helping them to better cope.

Volunteer child advocates join the Guardian Ad Litem Program from all walks of life: homemakers, business professionals, teachers, lawyers, medical professionals, factory workers, office personnel, retirees and more. Common sense, life experience and a strong desire to help children are the basic requirements for becoming a GAL volunteer.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and advocating for children in the community, call 861-4875 or contact BBPN Member, Tara T. Neely, Volunteer Supervisor, Guardian Ad Litem Program at 941.861.4867
