Saturday, March 3, 2007 1pm - 3pm Immigration Forum - FINDING THE MIDDLE GROUND: IMMIGRATION LEGISLATION, at New College of Florida  
The purpose of the forum is to find the middle ground in the nation's immigration debate, and to pressure our leaders to make progress on immigration legislation.  The forum will consists of four panelists: State Rep. Keith Fitzgerald, Jim Delgado representing the Mexican Council of Florida and the Gulf Coast Latin Chamber of Commerce, Luz Corcuera, Director of Healthy Start of Manatee County, and Father Celestiono Gutierrez, pastor of St. Jude Catholic Church.  During the first hour, each panelist will discuss a topic; this will be followed by a question and answer session. 

The event will be held in the Sudakoff Building at New College of Florida, 5800 Bay Shore Rd., Sarasota. Friday, March 23, 2007 3PM Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Author, Former Member of the Dutch Parliament and Activist, 2006 Recipient of the AJC"s Moral Courage Award
Somali-Dutch former Parliamentarian, controversial screenwriter, and internationally renowned author of The Caged Virgin, Ayaan Hirsi Ali will speak in Sarasota. Named one of Time magazine’s 100 most Influential People of 2005, and winner of the Martin Luther King Heroes Award 2006 by the Congress for Racial Equality, among many human rights awards, Ayaan Hirsi Ali burst into international headlines following the Islamists murder of her colleague, Theo van Gogh, with whom she made the movie Submission, which criticized Islam’s treatment of women.

The event will take place in the Historic Asolo Theatre at the Ringling Museum of Art under the auspices of the American Jewish Committee and in cooperation with UNIFEM and Embracing Our Differences.
