She was motivated to start her own business after witnessing the disparities people of color often experience in the mortgage industry. At this event Joyce will offer some of her financial tips to navigating the financial abyss.

Friday, March 16, 2007 and Saturday, March 17, 2007 American Cancer Society - Relay for Life at Booker High School

Relay for Life is a community gathering where everyone participates in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event- because cancer never sleeps. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24hrs in length.

You can form your own team or join an intact team. We want you! Open ceremonies will begin at 6:00pm with a Victory Lap. At dusk there will be a Luminaria Ceremony where you may light a candle in memory or honor of a loved one who has battled cancer. A diplomat and politician, he served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (1977-1979) and as mayor of Atlanta (1981-1989). Andrew J. Young, Jr. is also a former aide to the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Howard Club is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the support, sponsorship and scholarship towards educational opportunities for students to Howard University, Washington, D.C. University of Houston, FREE Engineering Camp - 11th Grade African-American Students

This is an opportunity for 11th grade students to attend a FREE engineering camp at the University of Houston from June 3 - 15, 2007. African-American  student participation is very much needed. Students that participate in this camp have been known to gain summer jobs. This camp helps students to develop good study habits and learn about engineering careers. Currently need at least 15 more students to apply.

The deadline is April 15, 2007 Students are encouraged to apply from anywhere in the United States Transportation is not provided. However, the camp is free. As a courtesy, staff members will pick up and return out of town students to the bus station, train station or airport for free. Please have your student to fill  out the application at http://www.egr.uh.edu/promes/?e=camps and mail it to the address listed on the brochure. Syracuse University, School of Architecture - Minority Scholarships

Dr. Mark Robbins Dean of Syracuse University's School of Architecture is desperately seeking young men and women of color interested in pursuing a five year professional degree in Architecture. Dr. Robbins is deeply committed to bringing diversity to his field and has scholarship money set aside to fully cover education costs for 10 students. The Latino enrollment in the school has increased substantially, but it is having difficulty attracting Blacks.
