SCAT is conducting two workshops to discuss opportunities for Grant funding related to transportation to work for the unemployed and for persons with disabilities. If you are interested, please attend. Interested representatives of public, private, and non-profit transportation and human services providers as well as the public at large are welcomed to attend. Others who may also be interested in coordinating public transportation services and improvements that benefit elderly, disabled, low-income, and unemployed populations should plan to attend.

The convention will feature a series of workshops on issues such as Exports and Import focus on business development, growth international strategies, sales and marketing, motivation, life and work balance, financing, regulations, franchise opportunities, and Free Trade Agreement's issues with South America and Central America. Eckerd College Program for Experienced Learners will offer a free information session for adults 23 years or older considering earning a bachelor’s degree in a quality liberal arts program. Classes are offered in downtown Sarasota and various locations throughout the Tampa Bay area. The Program for Experienced Learners offers evening and weekend classes, accelerated terms, and the opportunity to earn credit for prior learning. Financial aid is available to qualified students.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 6:00PM New Beginning Newtown CHAT Substance Abuse Committee Meeting

A separate committee of the New Beginning for Newtown Initiative has been formed to discuss substance abuse issues and research and explore the effectiveness of alternative treatments. The meetings will be held every third Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at at the Human Services Center located at 1750 17th Street on the corner of 17th Street and Osprey Avenue, in building(J). Discussion topics include:

• Identify current treatments available to Newtown residents
• Asses the mindset of those residents-(are they willing to participate?)
• Discuss ways to connect residents to treatments.
• Encourage the participation of more Newtown Residents in this discussion
